Listen: The Birdcage Stage entertains shoppers on the streets of Chester
By Vivian Onyekwere
We Are Chester’s Vivian Onyekwere shares her experience of enjoying The Birdcage Stage when it came to the streets of Chester. It’s one of a number of events which are put on for free in the city.
It’s not often that you spy a larger than life bird cage on the streets of your city, complete with an array of colourful entertainers.
That’s just what happened here in Chester when performers from The Birdcage Stage arrived.
This Liverpool-based company, set up in 2015, came to Chester as part of the Chester Spring Blooms celebration programme, which was put together by Destination Chester and also included an art trail.
Visitors and people doing their shopping or on their lunch break in the city were treated to singing, eye=catching costumes and a large and ornate golden birdcage stage set outside the town hall.
Katy-Anne Bellis, manager of The Birdcage Stage said: “We are here to spread a bit of joy and spread a bit of colour into the street and make it really beautiful.”
The Birdcage Stage company can be found touring around the UK.
Listen to this podcast as Katy-Anne Bellis tells our reporter Vivian Onyekwere what The Birdcage Stage is all about.
