Flipside radio and other REALLY good stuff: it’s all happening in Chester
Quick post here ahead of a longer post a little bit later in the week. Now, where do I start when it comes to talking about the phenomenal creativity going on in Chester at the moment? Let’s start with coffee, shall we – always a good move, in my humble opinion.
My visits to the wonderful Harvest Moon Espresso Bar in Northgate Street are becoming a bit of a weekly habit – but I’m not complaining. The journalist in me loves to have the chance to meet new people and when you combine that with the chance to visit a top notch independent coffee shop and to enjoy a freshly-brewed flat white, then I’m in my element.
My latest interviewee, the very inspiring Alice from voluntary organisation Good For Nothing in Chester, summed it up perfectly for me when she told me how her voluntary work recharges her batteries. I feel just the same. More on Alice and the amazing feats being achieved by the dedicated folk at Good For Nothing soon.
In other news this week, I was contacted by another incredible group of creatives – the team behind Chester community radio station Flipside. The station, formerly known as Lache FM, was able to broadcast live on 90.2 FM over four days last month thanks to securing kickstarter funding from generous donors, including local businesses such as The Karl Vella Group, who sponsored the FM broadcast.
I tuned in to some of the broadcasts and really enjoyed hearing the presenters interviewing and showcasing local talent, along with interviews with local charities doing incredible work in the city.
If you missed out on the broadcast, then don’t worry – you can listen again online at http://www.mixcloud.com/thebackflip. You can also tune into Flipside online every Tuesday and Thursday from 2pm onwards. For more information go to www.flipsideradio.fm or call 01244 677721.
Watch this space for more culture news over the next day or so, including a very exciting food-related* project being launched by the hugely energetic people at Good For Nothing – I promise you won’t regret it.
* Another subject very close to my heart.
