New music festival comes to Chester

We are delighted to announce that a brand new music festival is coming to our fair city in August – and it’s free if you book tickets in advance.

The Sourdough Festival takes place at St Mary’s Creative Space (as shown in our main pic) on 5 August and will showcase a number of talented artists, including two from Chester. It is being staged by champions of alternative music, Soundsphere magazine, who aim to shine a light on the best in alternative music from the north and worldwide. Soundsphere founder and editor Dom Smith was even based in Chester for a time and the city clearly still has a special place in his heart.

Sourdough, which is hashtagged #loafordeath, will include performances from Chester-based modern folk musician Alx Green, who has now branched out into a full-on band experience with the Alx Green Band, along with enigmatic beats from lo-fi hip hop act Phlux.

The stunning surroundings of this atmospheric former church will also play host to music from Brighton quartet Ezekiel Do, with their unique brand of lo-fi garage rock, said to be something akin to a combination of Richard Dawkins and Ty Segall.

There’ll be an opportunity to BYOB or to enjoy the alcoholic beverages offered at a pop up bar or indeed some delish caffeinated beverages courtesy of a pop up coffee shop or other stalls. The festival is open to anyone aged 18 or over and runs from 2pm-10pm. And last, but definitely not least, it’s free entry for those who book in advance. Otherwise, there’s a suggested donation on the door.

For more information check out Sourdough’s Facebook page, the Soundsphere Twitter page or the Sourdough Twitter page, which is soon to be launched.
