Listen: Campaign reminds Chester road users of Highway Code changes

A road safety awareness campaign has taken to the streets of Chester to remind road users of the importance of respecting each other’s space.

Representatives from the Share The Road campaign went on to the streets of the city to talk to road users, particularly in light of the introduction of new Highway Code rules to protect cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians.

Share The Road includes important messages such as the minimum distance that road users should maintain, in order to keep people safe.

The campaign is run by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council’s road safety team and Cheshire Police.

Station manager Andy Gray, who is the deliberate fire reduction and road safety officer for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “All we are trying to do is to influence the behaviour of all road users to share the road and respect each other.”

The campaign aims to remind all road users that the minimum distance to keep between, for example, a car user and a cyclist, is 1.5m, as shown in the photo below.
